Click for THOUGHT OF THE MONTH Updated July 2011 Website for the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne & Ross: GENEALOGY There are two ways the Union can assist in researching your family history: - contacting the Rector with specific queries - the more information you can provide the better! Each register search has a standing fee of €25, which goes to church funds. OR The Cobh Genealogical Project This is a project which involves the computerising of all the Church of Ireland parish registers for the County of Cork. Computer files of all the original records held in the Fanlobbus Union were passed on to the CGP in 2009. The Project also holds microfilm of all Cork County Church of Ireland Registers which are National Archives, and which escaped destruction in the Public Record Office in 1922. These contain marriage Records prior to 1845, and Baptism and Burial Records prior to 1870. Some go back to the 1650, but 1750 is more usual.
Work in hand includes Moviddy Union and St. Mary’s Collegiate Church, Youghal. Requests for Searches should be made by letter and should include ALL the information about the individual which the inquirer knows. Include copies of any relevant Baptismal, Marriage or Death Certificates that have been obtained. The fee for a simple search of the database is €25, £20st, $30(US). If the record is not found the request will be put on file and the inquirer notified when the information is discovered. If the area is not in the database then the same fee will cover search on microfilm, of up to three registers if the location is known. Requests, including the fee, should be sent to: The Director,
